Throughout the year, Monastero Bormida Castle hosts historical reenactments, medieval markets, and night-time shows , with reenactors from the APS Custode Viarum and the collaboration of other historical groups in the area.

Un’esperienza immersiva nella vita rurale tra Ottocento e tradizioni contadine accompagnati dalla lettura di brani del libro “I Sansossi” (Gli spensierati) di Augusto Monti, che fu insegnante di lettere al liceo D’Azeglio di Torino, antifascista, e che influenzò la formazione di Cesare Pavese, Norberto Bobbio, Vittorio Foa, Leone Ginzburg.

A tanto arrivò, attraverso un complesso rapporto con il padre Bartolomeo, la cui storia è appunto qui raccontata. Siamo in quell’angolo di Piemonte segnato dal fiume Bormida dove le province di Asti, Alessandria, Cuneo si toccano ed insieme sentono l’aria della Liguria. Monastero Bormida, Ponti, Monesiglio: in queste località si snoda la storia dei Monti, mugnai di storica estrazione.

SPECIAL EVENTS AND EXPERIENCES 2025

Saturday, May 10 – International gathering of historical reenactors from the Monastic Military Orders (Templars, Teutonic Knights, and Hospitallers).

Sunday, May 11 – Grand historical reenactment featuring:

  • Artisancraft market
  • Medieval-inspired lunch and tastings of historical foods and liqueurs by Langamylove
  • Weapons training and crossbow shooting
  • Games and activities for all ages
  • Costumed reenactors by Custodes Viarum APS

Saturday, September 20 & Sunday, September 21 – An Invitation to Court

In addition to a guided tour, visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience courtly life between the late 14th and early 15th centuries.
By reservation, guests can step into the shoes of a noble Lady or Knight and take part in:

  • Knightlycombat training
  • Medieval dance and poetic improvisation under the guidance of a Master
  • Archery and crossbow shooting to defend the castle
  • Chess games following the Liber Scaccorum by Jacopo da Cessole

A captivating nighttime reenactment featuring a traditional merenda sinoira (light evening meal), live entertainment, and a guided torch-lit tour of the village and castle.
